Our first assignment for Merging Worlds studio course during Wintersession 2021. We were asked to use a traditional medium of our choice, and needed to find a photo of an animal and place it within our two-point perspective space. I ended up deciding on a mundane scene where a cat is seen resting on a chair in a bedroom, as the main goal of the class is to master lighting and perspective and starting with a relatively simple scene would allow me to focus on this objective.
After we photoshopped our animal onto our composition, we were allowed to use digital tool to do a few lighting exercises.
After deciding on a successful lighting composition, I proceeded with my final piece. I used stippling for the entire piece because I wanted to highlight the serenity and softness of such a quiet scene. Stippling also toned down the harsh contrast between light and shadow, further evoking a sense of warmth and gentleness.
